Well I'm considering picking up a 1G Eclipse GSX, and I was wondering what your impressions of the 4G63 are. I've always been a rotard, and I'm used to the rotary reliability. What are the 4G's like. I've heard they tap out at 180K is that true? Also what kind of power can the stock block handle. I know a built engine can craank out 400 whp reliability, but I was just going to slap this thing together and make it a fun daily driver. Let me know your experianced impressions.

i wouldnt count out the v8 quite yet.
sure ls1/lt1 is out of your budget, but there are plenty other cheap engines you might look into. chevy/ford small blocks are dirt cheap, literally, since there are millions of them out there. and they have enormous aftermarket support.
gearing is the only real drawback to an older setup, unless you use a t56, but thats out of your budget. but hey if you jsut want a fun car, i saw go for an iron small block, ford or chevy, with a t5. its cheap, and completing an engine swap is something to take pride in.
i know a kid in san antonio, still in high school, who built a 5.0 FC for nothing. i think he might have made money when it was all said and done. he bought a wrecked 80's mercury something and parted it out for far more than he paid. sell the rotary parts, etc.
its definatly doable if you're willing to keep an eye out for deals, and sell parts.

4g63's are pretty reliable from what I've heard when they're not modded to an extreme. It's a decent platform for a quick daily driver. Your info is about the same as what I have read. Just don't throw the car into a closed loop or you'll dread it

The 1G 4G63 is the best DSM you can get IMO. No crankwalk issues like the 2G's had. Plus the 1G's are light. Just simple bolt ons would be fun

Regarding the DSM's, dont they have a solid rear axle on the non AWD models?

My old friend had a '91 talon and it was a blast to drive in.

it's a 4 port 13b. probably a turbo engine with a se front cover on it. that's a lot alot of work, but as I said before I don't have anyplace to do a swap unless someone steps up and helps me out.

I'm just going to take what I can use and sell it to someone who has time to fix her up right. It's a beautiful car, just needs an engine and a little love.

On another note, someone remind me on why I bought another Rx-7? These things will be the death of me...

Have you investigated what caused the previous engines to pop before putting another one into the same car?
