Angry Electrical Gremlins

So I bought another FB... Yea that's right I'm baaaack. This one isn't trubo though, yet..................

So, I bought the car and all the exterior lights worked fine, but the interior lights were very dim. On the drive home as the sun set I turned the lights on and everything was still okay until i turned up the dimmer switch, and it fried itself. So after that no interior lights worked, but all the exterior lights worked, except the turn signals. So I knew the fix by the tranny and the wires were not connected, so I took out the dimmer switch and connected the 2 red wires. Now I have all my exterior and interior lights, but no turn signals, and the brake lights do not light up when i hit the brakes. All fuses and fuseable links are good.

Any Ideas?!?!?!!?

ALSO: I've been searching for hours and I cannot find a fix to a broken colapsible steering collum. The damn thing moves in and out an inch. I've never bought a FB that was broken, but I heard it was very common and an easy fix. So I didn't think much of it, but after about 2 hours of searching I havent found anything really helpfull.

What, was that English? The bit for the steering wheel is fine. Are you talking about replacing the plastic safety plastic pins? I jobw that's what I have to do, but I have never seen where they are, or how it is done.

check your flasher relay for the turn signals, also check the lamps. for the brake lights it might be as simple as replacing the bulbs. use a short stick to depress the pedal so you can check to see if you have power to the bulbs. if you have no power to the lamps, make sure you have power to the brake switch. no power there means check fuses. have fun

You checked the 15 Amp fuse? If the key buzzer / door open does not go off then that's the problem.

The one marked "Meter Back".

Nope all the fuses are now new, and the door buzzer and light work. I think the car is possessed! LOL

Nope... As I said in my first post I already bypassed the dimmer switch, so that isn't the problem. This is soom good trouble shooting though, thanks. Keep 'em comming.

That's the problem. I don't think bypassing it like that will work. The Mazda Service Manual says to replace it.

I was speaking english, typing with one hand cuz i was drinking tea at the tv where there are no tables...

So yes it is a bitch to change the plastic pins (not nut sorry) You can use hollow rivet or something like a nail or equivalent that will fit. Common problem. Very difficult to see where they are but IIRC you can do it with the dash in but taking the dash out does help a bit

Hmmm alright. I know that the pins are hidden under the 3rd or outmost collom, but where they are on the collom I have no idea. I've read you can drill a half inch hole just through the outer caseing 7.5" from the fire wall and you'll see the pin, but I don't know if that's on the interior or under the hood.
