Beware NW
Don, that sucks man! I was really looking forward to seeing your t2 there.
Don, you did lie about something. You said that Hayes doesn't know anything about rx-7s. Well after breaking down my block I realized they do. They know how to mix enough junk parts off the older generations to make a cheap FD block. And also they know how to do a shitty rechrome of the rotor housings, which= less horsepower, and less compression.
I really hope they didn't go the same route on your block as to ghetto riging some of the parts, but I wouldn't be suprised.

I haven't tuned any microtech systems yet but I have yet to run into a system I can't tune. I believe Don gave you my contact info awhile ago...
I believe that once you know how to tune a car and know the guidelines to follow you can tune any system. Its just a matter of learning the software. I do have experience with AEM, Haltech, Autronic, holly 950 and I am now an Autronic dealer witch I consider to be one of the best ecu's availible today. I am also a graduate of EFI University and I fell very confident that I can make any system work very well although it take me a little longer than tuning a system that I am more famillar with...
I would love to help you tune your car. If you want, just give me a call and we can talk about this further.

So my engines been rebuilt, I have about 1200 miles on it, so its ready for a good tune. My car just seems to have a mind of its own....it's not an easy car to deal with.
Thanks Justin will give you a call
And yes hayes double sucks
When I bought my FC, I was told that the engine had just been rebuilt by hayes rotary. I immediately thought 3months and this motor is dead. I was right it was 3months and 4 days and the oil seal in the front rotor crapped out. Luckily I had a replacement motor waiting.
Here is what I'd do. Have Mike in Puyallup build you a motor (ported or whatever). He will warranty the labor for what seems like eternity as long as you are honest with what you did to the motor (no OVERBOOSTING). Then you take that EMS of yours and the car to Fairlady Motors (Tacoma). Doug is gettin pretty good and using that Dyno to make power. His rates are cheaper than most of the big dogs and he has an ability to explain why he's adjusting the things he's adjusting. By the time you leave, you'll be able to tune rotary's with any EMS.

Doug's learning how to tune rotaries now? Excellent!
I've only met him once but I'd gladly drive all the way down there again to have him tune my car. He's really friendly and knew what he was talking about.

Last week I got a call from a disabled elderly lady that owned a fb. She had taken her car to Hayes because her car was running crappy. Of course she knows nothing about these cars, so she trusted Hayes with all repairs etc. Her last visit to Hayes was flat out criminal.
After towing and leaving her car at Hayes, she got a call from them telling her that they did a compression test, and after the test Hayes determined that her motor was history. So they say. Hayes then proceeded to tell this lady that her car was no good and not worth even parting out. They requested that she sign the title over to them for the services rendered for doing the compression test. She didnt know any better, but decided to call a few of us for advice. After talking to her, I told her not to give them her title to her car for just a compression test.
She then called Hayes to let them know that she was paying for the compression test, and having her car towed elsewhere. Guess she was too late, as Hayes had already disasembled her engine, assuming that this lady would give them the title. She gave no ok for them to take out her engine.
Hayes rotary was very upset with her, and told her to come get her car, so they threw her motor in the back of her car all disasembled, and left it at that. No tow company would come tow her car because of insurance reasons, with motor in the back of her car. Hayes refused to put the motor back in the engine bay.
So Hayes had no authorization to even take this ladys motor out of her car. Flat out criminal to try to scam a disabled elderly lady out of her car for payment of a simple compression test.
We did manage to talk Dan Atkins into getting the car for her, and at least get her a few dollars.
I'm almost thinking we should have a sticky for the good and bad of shops here in the NW, to save people from situations like this.

Does Hayes specialize in rotaries? If so, how the hell do they stay in business? Are there that many northwest rx7 owners that are still not on the forum? I know it seems like I've talked to every 7 owner on my side of the mountains.
I tell you what. I'd bounce Hayes into small claims court and sue for tripple damages. This lady is due 3 times book value of the car plus expenses. Too bad the evidence is gone.

Just made a report to Tom Martino http://www.troubleshooter.com/ about Hayes. Im encouraging all who have had bad experiences with them to also file a report in the troubleshooter help center.

I agree Hayes are really bad on their stuff, even the dealerships dont trust them. My fd had their Engine and it blew up after a few miles. I should've done my research about Hayes before buying the Fd that had a Hayes engine in it. Beware of Hayes!!!
Someone should contact some of the local news stations for that lady with the FB.
They eat those stories up at the 5:15pm hour. Fleecing a lil' old lady at the garage. Then the outcome of the story is to check with your friendly online car club forums for references for good shops.
But that is just crazy criminal, isn't there a very clear and definitive law of not doing automotive work without the consent of the owner? No business that like should ever stay in business with such an alleged track record. It is one thing to go to hell and then there's fighting your way to hell.

My guess is they stay in business from the non-internet rotary owners. I think the hayes rebuilds last about 20-30k average (though it can be less easily) so if they do the rebuild the owner might sell the car before then or not even think it was the rebuild and rather something else. And if they've never heard anything bad about Hayes from places like rx7club, how would they know?
It's such a shame though
It's such a shame though
Mr Obvious
Gary Brooks is sorting out my Hayes $3,000 microtech install. He sent me these pictures.
"hayes rotary is a mistake,it seems like you guys could keep customers away
from him, with the form everyone should know how much of a crook he is.I
don't like bashing mechanics .but this guy needs to be out of business. you
are so lucky your car cannot catch on fire the wires under the fueled
manifold were all loose and frayed not to mention wire in backwards the
introductions really isn't that hard to follow but that is Hayes."
Yes im still bleeding over this one.
This is what $3000 gets you at Hayes but only if you give them 11 months to do the job like I did.
