2 week prep?

Hey, this belongs in the 2nd gen section but I really don't like the attitude of the slu of new people that have cropped up in there and you guys are nicer anyway. I'm leaving for two weeks coming up and was wondering what you guys would do to your 7s? I might be able to put it in the garage but it's looking doubtful so it'll be outside the whole time. I'm tempted to drop it off at a friend's house and have him look after it and take it for a drive every now and then (up to redline of course). Yes, I know I'm overprotective of my car.

I'd rent a storage garage for a month and park it in there. If you're only gonna be gone for two weeks, I wouldn't worry too much about driving it.
I have very few friends I would trust to take my car for a redline drive without me there.

Car cover, if you don't need it to move unhook the battery, and you could put some oil inot the spark plug holes and turn it over and couple times to get it distributed then put the spark plugs back in, but that's more for an engine that's older and when you're worried about carbon lock. Other than that you don't really need to do anything.

personally, i wouldn't leave my car outside for two weeks without anyone watching it. It seems like every day there is a new "my 7 got stolen" thread, and we all know they aren't a hard car to steal. I'd have your friend watch it. I'd rather have a car that has a little bit of an engine problem because no one drove it for a week rather than no car at all.

If you’re comfortable with leaving your car outside (sound like you are, nothing wrong with that) then I wouldn’t do anything except maybe take the battery cables off. It’s only two weeks. Just don’t shut it down cold and flood it for two weeks.

Maybe pull a fuw fuses, disconnect the fuel pumps connetor, remove the ECU, you know just a few minor anti-theft techniques.

Thanks guys. Think I'll go with the battery/fuse idea. The stock S5 alarm system is pretty good but I still don't trust it and have caught one person in the act of trying to steal my car along with a popping oil fiasco. The engine's a recent Mazda rebuild/replacement with less than 30k on it so I'm not worried about carbon lock in the slightest.

And Joe, you know me better than that, I'm paranoid about shutting off my car when it's cold and flooding it. =)

Thanks for all the ideas, guys!

Just my $0.02, but also do something to prevent the car from being stolen, that hasn't been mentioned on this thread. Why? You just told a couple of hundred people that you're leaving for two weeks and what you are doing to disable it. I'm sure it's none of the people who post on this forum, but I'm sure there's been at least one or two people roving the forum to find "targets".

Two weeks is no problem at all. Disconnect the battery to prevent small discharge from draining it.

Get comprehensive insurance and don't worry about it. A Comp claim doesn't count against you anyways.

Yeah, I also thought about that but none of you know when I'm leaving, where I'm going, where my car will be, or how exactly I'll disable it. Not to mention, none of you know where I live.

I would have just gone with bstrange's idea but money's an issue for me and I can't afford to rent out a car spot at a storage place for a month.

Kettlman's offer sounds enticing though. I'm sure it'll do some doughnuts as well?

yeah do some security messure that you can think of your self that you havnt mentioned your doing on here!!.

only preventitive thing i could see is if you had a car with bad coolent seals to maybe have someone start it and run it every couple days so it doesnt sit in the housings and start to rust or turn nasty. but thats not in your case

Well, I'm back (trip ended early)! Doesn't look like any of your broke in to the garage and tried to run off with my car. Glad to see some new members on the board and looking forward to the Rainier drive as well as going to an Izzy's meet next month to finally see you all in person again (looks like I missed a good one).

Anyhow, see some of you on the road.
