TX Will Not Idle!! Need HELP!! asap.!

Ok so I have an 85' GSL (original 12A) She starts up fine but dies right away. She will not hold an idle position at all...

I have no idea what it could be as I am fairly new to the whole Rotary scene, I am thinking that it might be the idle timing valve or possibly something to do with the fuel pressure system.

Anything in regards to this issue will help at this point...

I am in dire need to get home from NY to TX and this car is the only source of transportation that I have right now...

Need more details. Will it run if you hold the throttle? Might be a vacuum leak or something like that. There is also a fuel pump relay on the 84/85 that runs the pump when cranking or if you are getting a trailing ignition signal (source of tach). If it dies no matter what you do, you may not have a trailing signal (does tach work?). If this is the case, the fuel pump would shut off as soon as the car started. Let us know more and we will try to figure it out.

I have the same problem with my '84 gsl. If i'm giving it throttle it will stay running but when i try to get it to idle it just dies. Also when the car is started and running the car shakes violently and i just am at a loss. I would appreciate any help that anyone has.

This happened to me one time. I had the upper intake apart to fix something behind it and after reassembling everything, the car would start, and then die. I was frantic about what the problem was until I realized I had put the vacuum spider bracket between the manifold halves, so there was an enormous vacuum leak. Make sure everything is nice and tight and there are no loose hoses.

Could be the idler control valve, might be sticking. Give it a good cleaning

You may have a broken apex seal.

For everyone else, here's a great article on tuning the Nikki Carb, written by our resident expert Sterling: http://sterlingmetalworks.com/tuning_the_nikki.htm

+1 Sterling is a Genius. That man knows everthing there is to know about Nikki's.

Soooooooo, I hate to be the guy that says "Is your computer plugged in?". . . . . .
But you are pulling out the choke, right? And it stays pulled out? You mentioned you were new to the whole rotary thing. Most people aren't accustomed to a manual choke. I'm just thowing darts here. Definitely need a bit more info.

Just a thought. Have you checked your timing? True, it shouldn't just go out all of the sudden, but just a thought and a quick thing to check. Also, perhaps the fuel filter as well. Couldn't hurt. There is my two cents, for what its worth :-)

VT '79 starts then stops

Similar problem with '79.
Symptoms: Stopped engine in driveway after a run around the block - had run fine.
Now - Choke will not stay out (checked continuity - ok), engine starts then immediately stops. holding choke or pressing accelerator have no effect. No obvious leaking hoses, but they are original. (only 32K miles and I'm original owner).

another idle ?

hey guys just picked up an 84 gsl, its my first rotary i have done alot of reading in the past cause i have all ways been interested in them. any ways i am having an idle issue my self, the choke works fine and starts right up but wil not idle off the choke. as soon as it opens the choke automatic it wants to die. it will run at 2g if i hold the throttle and it will run if i just bump it right before it dies. thinking its in the air box/vaccum lines but not sure.. it also runs realy strong though it has a small fuel cut just above 2g when accel. wil the seal between the carb and box cause this? and the fuel pump ticks constantly when the key is in the on position is this normal?
