Will a FB gas tank fit in a SA?
Will a FB gas tank fit in a SA?
Hello all! I have a ‘79 SA Limited I’m trying to get running and the gas tank is basically ruined inside. Has anyone swapped a FB tank into a SA? I know a GSL-SE tank won’t fit (because it’s larger) thanks to a video by RAD Potential. Any information would be great.
Thanks!
Thanks!
The SA spare tire well is for a full size spare tire. The FB spare tire well is for a donut spare so they could make the tank hold more fuel. Because of this, the FB tank will not fit the SA without modifications to the tank or spare tire well.
I rehabbed an SA (1979) this summer. I took the tank to a really good radiator shop that also does gas tank cleaning/sealing. It wasn't cheap, $350, but they cleaned it with MEK and resealed with a gas tank liner. They also added a tank drain because the 1979/1980 never had them like the 1981-1985. They did have to cut a couple of holes in the tank the ensure all the crap was gone. They make a couple L shaped cuts and peeled the metal back. Then they brazed the cuts back together after the got it clean. They did a fantastic job.
The GSL-SE tank is the same as the 12A (1981-1985) with a few modifications like bigger supply line and slosh cup.
