wierd drivetrain issue

Hello rotary experts, I'm having a rather strange problem.

I have an 87 na 5spd that feels like the clutch is clipping.

With the car off and in gear it rolls free as if it were in neutral.

I checked the pedal adjustment and the hydraulics and all seem to be in working order. I can get my finger between the slave cylinder rod and the fork.

I put a new clutch, pilot bearing, throwout bearing, and clutch fork in but not the pressure plate as my mechanic said it was still good but to no avail.

Next we swapped tranies to see if that was the cause. Still no good.

Rear main was good but replaced anyway. No oil of any kind on any friction surface.

I'm thinging maybe the pressure plate is bad or the flywheel is worn.

The car was used for drifting by the previous owner so it was abused.

Also I bought the car as it sits now so I have no idea what led to this problem.

Any thoughts?

Sounds like a hydraulic issue. Since you replaced everything you might as well replace the master and slave cylinder as well. You can also try bleeding the hydraulic system.

Oh, and you should have replaced the pressure plate while you were down there. If your mechanic didn't have you do that while you were already replacing everything else, get a new mechanic.

I blead the system. Still nothing.

My mexhanic is going to tear it down again at no charge and replace the pressure plate, hydraulics, and flywheel just to be safe

Yup either pressure plate or you have done really low compression

I think the compression is fine. The motor runs great.

I'm rebuilding it in a few months anyway.

I'm thinking its the pressure plate as well. Ill keep you guys posted

If you still have the oem hydraulics for the clutch I'd recommend replacing those. Got a new centerforce clutch installed on my car and had to have the master and slave cylinders replaced/upgraded since it was having troubles disengaging at high rpms.

Thank you all for the help. Ill be replacing the master, slave, and line after the holiday.

It seems strange though since I can see full movement from the rod at the end of the slave and I can actually get my finger between the rod and fork so I know its fully disengaged
