Fram oil filters are know for falling apart, filtering like crap, and blowing up in small nuclear explosions.

Seriously, their construction and filtering are the worst.

I would not buy meijer brand synthetic, but truth be told the restrictions on oil are so tight that there probably isn't that much of a difference.

Your post made it sound like RP was the 'only' oil that burns clean when that is completely untrue.

farbrerio is right. its not that fram filters are bad for rotaries, they're just bad filters...

also, modern synthetics are not bad for rotaries, using synthetics in a 20 yr old motor that ha 100k+miles on conventional is another story... synthetics are detergant by nature and thus "clean" away deposits left by conventional oils that aid in sealing, this leaks can form. this is why alot of engine builders recommend using a quality conventional oil during the break-in period and then switching to a synth if you want (which doesnt make much sense to me since one would think that the deposits would still be swept away?).

also, i dunno how accurate it is but some say that synthetics will cause swelling in seals in old engines as there is a different type of runner used. like i said, i dunno about that part. im no chemist

Non synthetic;

Castoral GTX 10W30 or 20W50....the 20W50 is for summer and track days when the engine is going to be running warm for long periods of time.

Get an analysis, it's not expensive < tells you exactly what you have/need. And actually all modern oils are pretty close.

And an oil temp gauge. that will tell you what you ought to be running. Too thick it'll get too hot, too thin it gets too cool.

You will find Rotella is the shiznit

as far as oil filters go, you can't beat the OE mazda filter. and they're only like $4. how much are K&N's, $10-$13??

The only plus side to K&N is the 1" nut on the top. Very useful on certain cars.
