What's your fav non synthetic oil?

Realized synthetic oil is not good for my '87. Do you guys have a tried and true, favorite oil?

farberio 10-01-09 10:07 PM

High quality synthetic is just fine for your '87.

If you are still against it, many people use Castrol GTX.

I use penzoil 20 50 and a k&n oil filter.. I like to use better but don't have the $$..

I've heard some bad stories with 7s and fram , ac delco and bosche filters.

Nothing is wrong with high quality synthetic. Unless of course your car burns a lot of oil, then you are just burning money away by dumping synthetic in.

My favorite non-synthetic oil is Valvoline VR 50w racing oil. Its straight 50 and it works like a charm. I use it (along with 2 bottles of STP oil treatment) in my 88 NA which burns a lot of oil at high revs. However, with this combination it hardly burns any oil.

Funkjaw,
When you were running a lighter oil did you blast out a smokescreen at high RPM?

w.sen 10-01-09 11:32 PM

Nice ill try that stp oil treatment.. How much is it?

Yeah. I won every race because the person behind me couldn't see lol.

One time I did a full oil change with Idemitsu just to see how my engine would run in my 88 NA, it burned up so quick it was disgusting. I got a complaint in the mail about my car smoking on the expressway haha.

Needless to say I went back to this combo:
4 quarts Valvoline VR-1 50w racing oil
http://www.autozone.com/autozone/cat...uestid=2463372
2 bottles STP oil treatment
http://www.autozone.com/autozone/cat...&brandName=STP

My car burns hardly any oil with this combo. By the way this was recommended by Paul from Rotorsports for rotaries that smoke and burn a lot of oil.

I do run full Idemitsu in my 89 TII however, that stuff rocks when you have a rebuilt engine on it with less than 30k.

That's a neat trick, but just so you know that means your oil control seals are worn out. The only way to fix that is a rebuild.

Riki 10-02-09 07:45 PM

i use coca cola classic in my engine and no problems so far:D

misterstyx69 10-02-09 07:48 PM

Johnson and Johnson Baby Oil....hey,what can ya say..happy camper..(haha!).

Yeah I know lol.

However, the car starts up every morning to take me to work and back. Heck, it Seven took me 900 miles to SevenStockXII and back last weekend.

Needless to say I don't see a rebuild any time soon lol.

Pettersen 10-03-09 12:56 PM

I prefer synthetic oil, not a big deal what kind since anything will work(atleast here in Norway all oil's can be used and it wont hurt the engine).

i've used mobil 1 for years been pleased with it and during rebuilds all internal parts look good especially after hard racing abuse. i use royal purple in my suzuki and it to has done well

rotary_sidewayz913 10-07-09 10:08 PM

i was always told synthetic was a bad idea for rotary motors so i use castrol 20 w50

farberio 10-07-09 11:22 PM

^ You were told wrong. Modern day synthetics are 100% a-ok for rotary use.

Mazda races with synthetics.

*TOUCH* 10-08-09 08:37 AM

^^+!. i use royal purple as well, but like i said as far as conventionals go (the question that was asked) cant be GTX.

Can this be further explained? Autozone threw me a fram oil filter when I went to get their oil change deal.

ffilemyr 10-10-09 05:18 PM

Oil

Royal purple is the way to go unlike most synthics RP will burn like reg oil
