Hi Roger
Type R Bathurst, in 22V Sunlight Metallic Silver. Manufactured 21 May 2002. Type R Bathurst number 1105 of 2174.
Type R Bathurst is not to be confused Type R Bathurst R. Your car is like the base Type R with 280ps engine, smaller brakes, 4.11 diff but came with strut tower brace, fog lights standard and ride height adjustable Showa coilovers. It doesn't have the carbon trim or decals like the Type R Bathurst R (but that model didn't get the standard fog lights like yours).
The original number you supplied in your opening post is the substitute VIN issued by the Australian Department of Transport following compliance.
Here are the compliance details:
PIN Company Name VIN Original VIN Make Model Name Model Code Build Date Category Plate Approval Number Plate Approval Date
10609 BARREV PTY LTD 6U90000FD3S605002 FD3S605002 MAZDA RX-7 FD3S 05/2002 MA 1060911/032 09 January 2015
Not to be too alarmist, but you may want to check the history of that car very carefully as Barrev is responsible for complying many of the cars that have prior crash history in Japan and wound back odometers. It likely went through a Sydney importer, which is very often not good news, particularly if not imported recently (the practice is not as common as it once was).
If you don't have them already, you can get the auction sheets and deregistration certificates from Japanese History Check: japancarhistorycheck.com - a quick check suggests there is auction data available for your car from 2014/2015.

That's a REALLY late FD. From a glance, I can tell it's in the last 2000 or so built, probably an April 2002 build. As I'm typing this, the database is booting up so let's find out for certain. So here's what came up, deciphered from the gibberish characters it produces (unicode text gets weird unless you have Japanese language installed). Someday I'll get motivated and put in the Japanese language pack so I can make more sense of the output:
FD3S-605002
Build Date: May 21, 2002
Model Catalog Code: 06937-0507 (FD RX-7 coupe)
MSC Code F158-2CW
Trim Name: "R", denoting a Type R Bathurst. Please note that this is NOT a Bathurst R, easy way to tell the difference is that yours has Fog Lights.
Paint Code 22V, Sun Light Silver Metallic
Interior Code FF2, Black
STB Seats, Cloth type "D"
280hp
5-speed
Limited-Slip Differential
16 inch wheels
4 seats
There is something about the Suspension that I can't make out due to a low-res scan. I believe it says "Limited Production Vehicle" but I may be mistaken as it is hard to read.
EDIT: KYPREO beat me to clicking submit while I was deciphering the MSC Code by a few minutes.

It is not a VIN, so there is nothing to decode. A VIN has 17 digits and the numbers or letters within designated digits have a specific correlation with an attribute of the car (eg country of manufacture, year, transmission, etc). Once you know the codes for a specific manufacturer/model you can decode any VIN for the maker/model.
For FDs, it is really just a chassis number. Mazda has a database listing the features of the car and so you have to query that database using the chassis number to find out anything.
