site for VIN and build dates?

I'm told there is a site that help determine your build date and other codes from your VIN. Can any of our members point me to it?
Thanks
Joe

thanks for the quick reply. Awesome. Is there anyway I can narrow it down to an exact build date? I'm planning on celebrating my FBs 20th birthday. (2nd owner).

You can guestimate it from the yearspan the serial # of your VIN was created. For example I know mine was built in May, 1985 in Hiroshima, Japan

If you're lucky, you still have a door jam tag that has the month at least. Mine was built in March of 1982.

What is interesting is the vin number only applies to North American cars not the world wide production.

I have an Australian 1985 model, listed as a SA22C, with the number702986 with a tag it was built in 10/84.
the equivalent US number would have been issued in 1982

1980, actually. Probably never at all. My '80 was born in March or May of '80 and it was SA22C-608250. They likely never got up to the 700000's. Beginning in late '80 they switched to the 17-digit "standardized" VIN.
