Twin turbo 302 third gen RX7?

I've been wanting to build something with twin turbo's for a long time now, and after i sell my current project, i'll finally be able to afford it. I was at first thinking about putting a twin turbo 302 in a 4.6 mustang, which has copious amounts of room thanks to that obese mod motor it comes with, but after riding in my friend's RX7, i would MUCH rather put the 302 in that. However, although fitting the 302 in a third gen RX7 should be fairly easy, i have no clue if the turbos will fit
The alternative is an LS1, but i would much rather use a twin turbo 302. Can anyone help me out as to if a 302 with the turbos will fit?

I wouldn't consider a 13B obese, especially when compared to the average V8. Though I guess when you consider the ridiculous weight of the 3rd gen's turbo system, it's certainly getting close.

There will always be space for turbos, but exactly where depends on the manifolds you fab up. You can place the turbos anywhere you want. You'll need to measure the engine bay, measure the engine, and decide where things need to go. I've seen single turbo V8 RX-7s with the turbo placed just in front of the engine.

What i would do first is to actually put the 302 into the rx7 and get it running. Then i would look at the clearance and see what i have to play with.

Good luck with it though, i fore see alot of fabricating, let alone fabrications for the 302 to go into the rx7.

I was referring to the 4.6 mod motor in the mustang as being obese, it's 6 inches wider than the 302 and weights 140 lbs more, so that's why it's a good contestant for the twin turbo 302, but i would much rather put the 302 in the RX if possible.
A single turbo is an option though, here are some decent manifolds i found, they look pretty compact, and definitely affordable (sorry the link is so long =P)

that would definitely be the best way to go about it, but the problem is, i haven't purchased a 302 or an LS1 yet... so i was hoping i could find out if the turbo 302 would fit before making the investment, but i haven't found anyone that has tried it yet

The eBay auction lists the manifold as "Ford Mustang 5.0 V8 T3/4 Twin Turbo JDM Manifold Header". That's pretty funny. I was not aware that Ford sold twin turbo 5.0 Mustangs in Japan only...

Like most of the eBay manifolds, that's a made in China piece that is of generally poor quality. It may be less of an issue with the typical small turbos used on V8s and their low exhaust heat compared to the rotary, but it's not something I would chance. A simple log style manifold is easy to make and while not the most efficient piece around, it will make finding space a lot easier.

I know a log style is definitely more compact, but i'm definitely gonna lose some horsepower =P

I'm thinking if i want to do a twin turbo 302, i'll have to stick it in the 4.6 stang =P
I'd much rather put it in an RX, but i can't find anyone around here with an RX7 with a V8 so i can measure the clearances myself, and i don't want to go through the trouble to put a 302 in one just to find out there's no way turbos will fit =P

yeah that is funny 5.o twin turbo JDM manifold , prolly some cheap crap that will crack in a few days
I am by no means a fan of v8 in rx7 , but to each his own , you could check grannys speed shop , they have tons of stuff on doing conversions , plus they have some pics there that might help you , they mostly do lt1`s and ls1`s but i think they do have a kit for fords ,
i have seen a v8 twin turbo in a 7 , with both turbo`s upfront they where not huge but i think they should do the job , not shure i even think that guy is on the forum here ...hope that helps buddy

Well i appreciate all the help! I'll check out that site and see if they have any ideas about where to mount the turbos. Hopefully i can find that guy with the twin turbos on this site, but if anyone else finds the link, please let me know! Just knowing that it's possible without having to carve the car up too bad would definitely help!
