n/a wont be able to handle much boost. if u want more than 7-10 psi, u'll neet to build a turbo engine since they use lower comp rotors. what yr 7 u have?

A carbed, high compression turbo engine...that sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. I hope you know your tuning really well... There's a whole lot more than just slapping a turbo on.

Just go the TII swap route. It'll be much safer.

The FAQ at the top of this forum has information on both kinds of turbo builds.

as mentioned, a t2 swap would be best. but if u must turbo the 12a, u'll need to boost prep the carb. aftermarket f/p and regulator for more fuel bad83 will be some help to u. altho his was a bp w/ holley carb.

You can find answers to a lot of these questions in the FAQ for the 1st gen and the 1st gen Archives. Both contain multiple methods of making a turbo 12A and references to what needs to be done to the carburetor to make it happen.
