Hello all, I recently acquired an FB 12A, Previous owner was very straightforward about the cars problems, told me it needed the engine rebuilt(dowel pin leak), and a new clutch. I have gotten almost 500 miles of driving on the car, and I am just beginning to notice that it does not want to go back into 1st gear at stop signs and etc. And Reverse always grinds, even though I have the clutch pushed to the floor? Wondering about the clutch. (Usually clutches begin slipping when they go bad?) And the gearbox's synchros. Its been hammered back and forth into 1st,2nd,and 3rd a million times before I ever came along, I am curious about having a bench job done on the trans, new synchros and bearings is only about $100 for parts.
​​​​​​​I would like opinions, I am new to driving stick (bought this car to learn) Its been great, but It doesnt like starting off in 2nd gear.

 

bad pilot bearing is the problem. should have been replace while the clutch was out.
