Tranny Conversion

Before i start, I joined awhile back thinking I was buying a 88' turbo II rx7 but it didn't happen, back because I'm getting a 1987 rx7 this time for real got a real cheap price.

Well my question (and I have searched before i posted), the rx7 I'm getting is automatic, not manual which bothers me.

What do I need to convert it into a manual?
Possibly a quick list or even if a vendor offers a transmission conversion kit?

well u'll need the pedals, of course he tranny, flywheel, clutch disk and pressure plate, release bearing, clutch master and slave cylinders, the lines, the flywheel needs to be within ur yr model range due to weight differences to keep all things in balance. this was quick off the top of the head so if i missed anything someone will mention it.

hmmm seems alot so 900$ for an auto rx7 s4.....or save up a little more for a $1800 rx7 s5 non turbo manual......probably would spend more money just to convert to manual so might as well go for the s5

Or actually I want a turbo 13b, so it doesn't matter because I would need a new tranny no? Because the one in there is a s4 13b want a s5 13b. Oh well I'll go with the automatic, have the money on hand

Only consider an S5 13B if you intend to run a full standalone. Otherwise it is a pain in the butt due to wiring differences.

Automatic to manual conversion is covered in the FAQ and 2nd gen archives. Off the top of my head, you need:

-pedal assembly
-master, slave cylinders
-front counterweight for manual OR aftermarket light flywheel
-clutch stuff
-manual transmission
-manual transmission cross member
-manual transmission driveshaft
-manual starter

You will need to either make your own transmission crossmember, or more properly, cut the automatic tranny mounts off of the body and reweld them into the proper position for the manual transmission.

Now, if you are going with a 13B turbo, then you should use a TII transmission. Actually you would use the TII unit anyway (on a NA 13B this means swapping to a TII flywheel).

Oh, one thing I forgot to mention. If you go with a TII transmission, you need the matching flywheel, clutch, slave, starter, driveshaft and differential. If you don't want to swap the diff, a custom driveshaft is necessary to mate the TII transmission to the NA diff.

I am thinking of doing the same thing to my 83. Really like to row the gears when I am in a sports car.

i'm planning on getting one of these 13b-t engines imported and rebuilding it hopefully porting it, and then swapping out the NA for the turbo setup, otherwise while I'm in the process of getting the engine and doing work on it, I'm just going to throw an exhaust setup on my current so the car can be drivable.
