TPS sensor issues..please help

So my tps sensor went out on my 1990 rx7, its a non turbo. I got the new sensor in to replace it, but i'm having problems removing the old one. Does anybody got some advice on taking it out? I'm trying to avoid removing the entire throttle body.

Two bolts hold it on. You shouldn't need to take throttle body off since it's right on the front.

wrong. the plate the 2 POTs sit on has a L shape kinda, with two bolts into the side of the TB and 1 on the bottom of the TB.
Ive taken it off without removing the TB, it just takes persistance, and maybe a little skill and luck .
I will try to take a pic, if i can
good luck!!
but when it goes back on just put the 2 side bolts, IMO the bottom bolt isnt really needed.

On every model FC I've seen there is only 2 bolts holding it on like rotary rocket said. 10 mm socket will take it right off.

the turbo TB may have only 2 but he said it's a 1990 non turbo.
and the pic I took is from my unmolested 1990 GXL.

I have a non turbo 86 base model and I had an unmolested 86 GXL too and they both had 2 10 mm bolts, maybe the s5's are different.

yea datz is right, it had two bolts and one screw on the bottom of it....the bottom screw sucked. Installed the new tps and its still running bad, does the new tps sensor need to be set or something after i put it in?

Yes. Throttle Position Sensors need to be adjusted so that the POSITION is correct. Read the 2nd Gen FAQ thread for info on how to adjust it.

Might want to post what your problem is since whoever told you to do the TPS doesn't seem to know what they are talking about.

Haven't checked the compression or timing, im praying that's not the problem. Its got a rebuilt motor with around 50,000 miles on it, 5 speed. It was running strong until a week ago, I was driving and it all of a sudden started idling really low and the engine was shaking when in neutral....then I hit the highway gave it some gas and it just kinda died out....lost all of its power, backfiring, and will stall if I don't stay on the gas

It could be a failed/clogged fuel pump, leaking/clogged injectors, mis-adjusted TPS, low compression, timing can be off, my old GXL had an exhaust leak and I had similar problems.

Nope. Not the cat.

Do you see that thread titled "Frequently Asked Questions on the 2nd Generation RX-7 1986-1992 FAQ for FC"?????

It is right there at the top of this forum. I told you about it twice now.

Here is the link:
https://www.rx7club.com/new-member-rx-7-technical-256/frequently-asked-questions-2nd-generation-rx-7-1986-1992-faq-fc-782402/

If you READ the thread, you will find a few threads on how to adjust the TPS. READ those threads to learn how. Don't expect people to retype what is in there for you. Help yourself.

Here's another link with TPS adjust info. http://howto.globalvicinity.com/gv_w...i=58&co=1&vi=1. The pictures are dead, but the other info is there. Use the FSM or a Haynes manual to figure out the wires/pins on the plug.

The link in the FAQ is going to a site that was taken down apparently. That's what happens to off-site links unfortunately.

I realize it must be some sort of accomplishment to find something I didn't know about, but try not to act like a douche about it. You'll get the same thing back from me. What you've found is something unique to the S5 NA TPS, since every other FC TPS has 2 screws that hold it on.

tps symptom can lead to these and more things. ur problem probably wont be fix by simply changing the tps.
so change it and go on to the next step.

but the two plates that hold the tps is very fragile, so careful and try not to mis shape it.
