IL Thinking about purchasing an 86 Rx7

So here's the scoop

There's an 86 rx7 in the junkyard local to me. I went there browsing around and saw it getting dropped off. Its not something I see very often and it immediately caught my eye. I know most of the people working there and If I notice something or want something held or pulled before it goes into the public yard they do they're best to help me out.

So, to cut it down a bit, I can buy the whole car with a clean title for $800. Its clean inside and out(Blue on blue cloth), doesnt run, sat in storage for years, 5 speed feels okay, it rolls and its not rusty.

Input/thoughts/opinion?

Without any real info about the car it's hard to give thoughts and opinions.

Not running could be anything, from a simple disconnected crank sensor to a bad engine that is thoroughly trashed.

A car that has sat for years is going to requite extensive work to get it back on the road. Starting with flushing out the whole fuel system, cleaning the injectors, replacing filters. Then moving on to all the suspension and brake stuff that has failed/seized from sitting.

It's a 26 year old sports car. There are going to be plenty of problems.

I would do it, if the body was in better than 7/10 condition and the interior in better than 5/10.

I bought my car sitting in a field with a seized engine and tabs from 1999.

It's a lot of work, but even if you parted it out, you could make most of your money back.

without photos and/or specifics, i'm going solely off of your word and description, so take what i say for what it is ... conjecture.

it pretty much comes down to how dedicated you are to getting it running again and your plans beyond that. it will be a project and not much else. if flipping it for profit is part of your plan, then i'd say pass (see what Aaron said) because if it's not something simple, you're in for significant investment. on the other hand, if you plan to keep it for a good, long time, then it may not be a bad move if it's as clean as you say.

Dude for $800 buy it! As long as you are will to fix it and don't need to rely on the car right away it's worth it to buy it. Or at least I would anyway lol

I wish we could find $800 chassis' out here with no rust! But to what dohtem8 said, could nt agree more, nothing more frustrating than knowing how/what you need to do but cant due to funds. Worst come to worst, part it out to all of us lol. Good luck and let us know what you end up doing.

If your looking for a project it sounds like a good starting point. If your looking to drive it next week and only spend a couple hundred on it not a good idea.

Rust is your worst enemy when buying a project. If she is clean, go for it.

IF you are bored, buy it! If you are looking for a cheap quick fix, forget it
