Temperature Spikes
Hi, I have a 91 non turbo. I've found the coolant and accompaning parts are a common problem with the RX7. After finally fixing minor leaks a new problem has come up. I'll be driving and the temperature will spike. When I rev the engine it levels off. Is this possibly the water pump or the timing?

Hey...Cut it out!

Sudden temperature spikes that level out if revved sounds like air in the coolant. When you rev the engine, coolant circulation is increased as well, which would un-stick a bubble from the rear iron temperature gauge sensor. Usually, bubbles like to stock on the Coolant Level Sensor at the top middle of the radiator, making the "Add Coolant" stay on as well as the buzzer inside the gauge cluster.
Try removing the pressure cap and watch for bubbles floating to the top. For more info, see the Second Gen FAQ or search for "bleeding coolant"
