How much horsepower does a stock 1993 RX7 have? Is is 252 or 255 or some other number?

FWIW....around 5 seconds 0 to 60 depending on the magazine. Not sure, but I think something like .9 G on the old stock 225 50's. I'm told it used to own Solo 'A' Street Prepared before the Z06 came along.

It owned the Super Stock class against C5 vettes. Only the 01 Z-06 started to beat it consistently.

(That said, Autocrossing in stock was about the last thing you wanted to do your FD, what with the underhood heat issues and all)

I seem to remember it being around .98g's on the skid pad

It's rare that anyone would still have a completely stock car these days. Almost all have had the stock pre-cat replaced with a downpipe...for safety if not performance. They'd also have some sort of cat back that is less restrictive and at least K & N in the stock intake box. Not sure what hp gains that would yield, but it'd probably add significant "butt dyno" over completely stock.

HP on a car that hasnt been rebuilt with higher milage is probably going to drop some as well do to blow by from seals wearing. Minor mods can improve HP a lot on turbo cars though. Properly done exhaust mods and a tune will help a lot.

Autocross, not rally. Autocross is when they set up cones in a parking lot.

For what you are wanting to do from the sounds of it not to much. I would definately heat shield the wiring in the engine bay. From what I have heard the engine harness has a bad habit of becoming very brittle due to the heat when racing.

FDs already corner well but I would suggest suspension and possibly a wider tire/wheel setup for extra handling. Exhaust and a tune for better power. Unless you are wanting to put a lot into it. Those are some basic additions that are good starters though.

Yup. I agree with this. I was responding to (That said, Autocrossing in stock was about the last thing you wanted to do your FD, what with the underhood heat issues and all) quote. I just want to know if there was anything other than the standard mods to help keep from nuking my engine.

When I ran in Stock I did "the fan mod" which simply ran the fans for 10 minutes after shut down, header-wrapped the downpipe and opened the hood immediately after a run. Really not much else except the standard cooling mods....S5 Thermosensor; as much distilled water as possible; plug gaps in ducting etc.
And it was one of the few times I actually used the turbo-timer that the first owner had installed. IIRC I ran it for no more than 2 minutes.

Pretty sure the R1 broke into the 1.0 G range on the skidpad in magazine testing.

I can say that is definately true.

When I purchased my car it was 100% stock just as it came from the factory, adding a DP and a catback made a huge difference. Especially with boost response.
