Starting issues

Hey guys! So I'm new to the rotary world and still in the process of learning. So basically my car sat for about a year it was at a shop and the guy dodnt start it like I told him too and now the car is turning over but wont start. I attempted to deflood the motor first by just pulling the egi fuses and cranking then putting the fuses back thay didnt work so I pulled the plugs cranked to clear out mist and replaced and still nothing. I'm at a loss right now and just had the motor rebuilt right before it sat so I dont belive the seals are shot. I am getting fuel and I am getting spark. Any info would be super helpful. Unfortunately I know no one around my area that knows anything about these engines that could even semi help me.

I've heard miracle stories on here of Seafoam bringing engines back to life that have been sitting for a while, that may be worth trying. Or the battery could just be dying on you, have you tried giving it a jump?

I have tried jumping the battery and checking the battery it's fine sadly. I hadn't heard about the seafoam but maybe I'll give that a try

My 1983 1st Gen sat a lot longer. If the gas is suspect, try adding some octane booster to the tank let it sit an hour or two then try it. Make sure the battery is fully charged and the plugs are good, too. Good luck!

Gas goes bad in about 3 months because of the ethanol. Soaks up water from the atmosphere. Is it coughing at all or is it just cranking with no intentions of starting? I doubt octane booster would help if the gas has gone bad. Id siphon out the gas and put in New just to eliminate that as a potential cause.

There was actually no gas in the car I'm assuming the guy drained it cause he had no intention on starting it -_- so the gas is clean

Did you ever have it running after it was rebuilt? Might want to run a quick compression test. A little bit of marvel mystery oil in the plug holes would probably not be a bad idea

yeah it was running great when it got back from being rebuilt. I puts some atf in the plug holes as suggested and still nothing. So maybe I'll try the mystery oil.

What year is the car?
Any modifications?
Why was it left at the shop?
How did you establish you had spark?
Why did you suspect it was flooded?
Have you checked timing (if not controlled by ECU)
Have you checked compression?

its a 1988
it has slight modifications like an aftermarket turbo front mount intercooler and I'm running a micro tech lt8 computer.
it was at the shop for electrical work and slight body work
for spark I grounded it on the frame
I think its flooded cause when I pulled the plugs they were covered in gas and it smelt. Ans the guy who built the motor suspected flooding when I sent a video of what it was doing
again I'm still learning here so no I didnt know who to check timing and I dont have anything to check compression here

A year to do some “electrical work and slight bodywork”?
Regardless, if you’re confident in spark, fuel and some compression, sometimes bump-starting it can be successful when nothing else was. Check the brakes and have someone with a suitable tow vehicle give you a pull on a quiet back street. If it starts, watch for good oil pressure. If you get that, take the engine to full operating temperature before shutting down.

trust me i wasnt planning on having it there for a year. It's a family friend who owns q shop and did great work on my dads car but he takes forever and kept pushing me off to the side. Also being pregnant and preparing for my child I wasnt in a rush to get it back cause I had so much going on. It was a huge battle with the guy. But anyways thanks I'll see if I can get someone to come help me with that.
