I have an 88 gxl, but she won't start. I've replaced the fuel pump, yet still nothing. Can anyone help me with this? Thanks in advance.

Have you verified the fuel injectors are spraying fuel?
Have you verified you are getting spark?
If you are getting fuel and spark, and you pulled the spark plugs and they smell like fuel, have you tried to de-flood?
Use the search function if you can, this question gets asked once a week. Narrow your search to the 2nd generation technical section, you will find lots of information.

Can you describe it in more detail? Does it crank and crank? Does it not crank at all?

She cranks, but won't actually crank. I can hear it trying to get going, but it just won't. If that makes any sense.

Yeah it does.

Check the basics like spark and fuel. However these things are so prone to flooding that you can try the de-flooding trick to see if that works.

Is it making any kind of particular sound? My 83 was making a whirring sound like it was trying to crank but the engine itself show little effort in actually turning over. My problem was the starter which I just replaced on Christmas and it now runs like a top again. If you're spark is good then I would recommend at least giving the starter a good few knocks and try to turn it over after that. Just make sure they're fairly hard, I beat mine with a 1-1/4" wrench.

I'm still new to this rotary thing, could you possibly explain the de-flooding trick to me? Or is there a sicky or faq I could read for that? Thank you.

Pull the EGI fuse (in the under hood fuse panel, check the 2nd Gen FAQ to find it) and crank for around 5 seconds. Put the fuse back in and it should start on the first try. Holding the throttle at WOT (wide open throttle) while cranking does the same thing on all 89+ rotaries, but pulling the EGI fuse works on any rotary car.
