ON SA22, Alternator Enough?

A question regarding the Ford Taurus e-Fan that is oh so common...

I've picked up the fan and notice that is can draw quite a bit of current while running (~30A), especially while on the high setting...

Can the stock SA22 (1980) alternator actually keep up? It's rated only at 50A...
Are there any easy swaps I can do from another car as an upgrade or even rebuild mine with parts from another as an upgrade?

Thanks,
Kam

Nope, the stock alternator won't be able to keep up and the sheer age of all the wire in the harness is also killing off recharging potential. Here's a thread on a quick swap...I've yet to finish it with the info on the relay I installed so all the dummy and recharging gauge would work correctly.

one of these days.

Wow, that's great!
I'll keep an eye out for fc's in my local junkyard.
It's a bit of a long shot but any word if other cars are swappable?

Dirt cheap is the main reason this swap is done...I got both of my TII 80-amp alternators off of eBay.

You'll need to go bigger than an FC alternator (70A: S4 or 80A: S5) to run a 30A Taurus fan. A 100A FD alternator would be about the bare minimum. An upgrade some have done is to use a modified 140A alternator from....you guessed it...a Taurus.

I'm reading through this:
https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generation-specific-1986-1992-17/130-amp-taurus-alternator-swap-857100/

Are there any cases of this being done on an FB, or atleast a 12a?

Any reason I shouldn't be a pioneer and try this?

Cheers,
Kam

You have to build a bracket? Hopefully that's for the FC....on the referenced thread above, no such monkey nonsense is involved and it'll easily keep up with 30 amp fan draw, a big stereo when the bass isn't driving 4 12" DVC subs and heater and lights, etc.

I know because that's what was in the '80 car and then later the '83. The same 80 amp TII alternator was plenty unless I kicked up the big amp to drive the twelves.
