S5 Turbo II motor purchase help/guidance
I am new when it come to RX7's after recently purchasing a 1990 RX7 GTU shell. So I've been looking for a series 5 turbo II swap for my RX7 for some time now. I finally found one, locally at that, however I'm not very familiar with what to look for. I've posted 3 videos showing some general walk around the motor i am thinking about purchasing. Its still in the car running and am going to look at it and maybe buy it this Friday, From the Videos and just in general, what should I look out for Before purchasing this motor. Any Advice or guidance is appreciated. They are selling the complete motor, No tranny for $2500. Thoughts

For that price I would perform a compression test with a rotary specific compression tester. When you are shelling out that much money, its good to know that the engine is in good operating condition. Be advised, that this may be a J-Spec engine given the J-Spec intercooler..though a J-Spec intercooler could have just been installed. But given the overall mileage of the car its a safe bet to assume that a J-Spec engine was installed in the car at some point. You need to know when and how many miles have been put on the engine since installation.

Welcome to the board.
aside from compression testing (which is a great idea, impractical as it may seem), the following are some pointers you might be able to use ....
- don't settle for oil leaks - particularly if it is on the ignition side of the engine (dowel pins by the MAZDA logo). If the engine is ridiculously clean in that area, let it run for a while and see if it starts to leak.
- check the oil itself for debris/shavings
- In the same vein, check the oil pressure and make sure it's at least up to factory specs.
- I didn't see smoking in the videos, which is good, but check around the exhaust ports and turbine anyway
Would be nice if you could get the owner to give up some history on the engine, too. It may or may not mean much, depending on what he says, but it may give you clues as to the kind of person he is, which may be enough of a red flag.
