Need guidance on suspension purchase (FD3S)

I have not driven my Rx7 for a couple of years now. I just put it back on the road and the suspension is shot. It probably was bad before but now the wheels are skidding and i'm jumping up and down on the seat every time I go over bumpy roads. So it's extremely dangerous to drive.

I want to try to lower the car an inch to an 1.5 inches, but I also don't want the ride to be too stiff. I'm looking for recommendations to replace the suspension. Not looking to spend a lot of money either as I am torn between keeping it and selling it

look in the for sale section, there are always used low mileage suspension parts going up for sale...or the suspensions section of this forum.

Unless you know what you want out of them I wouldn't look in the used parts section, they are selling them because they didn't do what they wanted them for there is always a reason they are selling them... Anyway do some research on what you want the car to feel like and how you want it to respond like are you tracking the car or are you street cruising. Once you know what you want out of them then go to the used parts section and look

Now if you are just going to sell it and you don't care just get anything I guess. how ever if someone want to test drive, a nice ride will get you In a better position as will a good tuneup

Is there anything actually wrong with the suspension or did you just get older and forgot what a borderline race / sports car feels like?

I drove mine for the first time in a month this weekend and was reminded how stiff the suspension could be. Your suspension may be fine. It could just be you.

Is there a decent rotary shop nearby that can diagnose before you throw a ton of money at a problem you can't solve? Is Pettit near you?

What do you have for a suspension now?

As Gracer7 noted, start with making sure your 'joints' 9(bushings, ball joints, etc) are all in good shape, and alignments are correct, before investing in springs and shocks.

Tires can do squirrley things too. What tires do you have, how old are they, and what shape are they in?

I have not driven the car in years. I went over some train tracks and hit my head while the tires skidded, it also bounced about 4 times, so I think the suspension is dead. I would prefer a smooth street ride.

It is still stock from what I can tell, at least the previous owner said it was stock. I've had the car seven years, tires have 2000 miles on them and I've had them for three years.

You might be disappointed then no matter what suspension you purchase. You have a sports car, it's not going to be 'smooth' unless you are comparing to something like a go-kart which has no suspension.

Send me a PM with your budget and we can provide several different options for your needs, we have sold over 50+ different sets of coilovers to satisfied rx7 owners.

A good set of shocks will go a long way for car control and comfort. Used low mileage (non abused) shocks, such as from purerx7 can be a really good value. Spend most of the money on good shocks, and a small amount on lowering springs if you have the need to go lower. Going lower pretty much means you need to go stiffer to keep from bottoming out. Priorities and tradeoffs - you decide!
