S5 TII Swap

Hello,

I would like to get some input and information on a doing a s5 tII swap.

I have a 87 s4 n/a which I would like replace.

I couldn't find any guidelines on about doing the swap.

I would like to know how much it's going to cost, parts I need, and common issues I'll run into.

Thanks,

Josh

TII swap info is WELL covered in the 2nd gen FAQ sticky. It will answer all your questions about what parts you need.

Now, cross series swaps are a bit of a pain. I suggest you stay with S4 TII stuff, or if you must use an S5 engine, use a full standalone instead of trying to match the S5 electronics to the S4.

Aaron means that you should just ditch the engine wiring and go to an aftermarket ECU such as a Haltech,It has wiring that goes to the engine and makes putting a different series of engine into a different series car a piece of cake..
CAKE..get it??...LOL!!~

How much more of a headache is it. I was reading up a lil on it and it seems ok. Them main pain seems to be locating a handful of wires so they can be relocated or terminated. Oh and fab work if you don't want the tmic.

Aside from the fab, is the wiring really that bad? I found those manuals that tell you pin locations and what the wires are for, so tha should help!

All the mechanical stuff just bolts right in. Then just use S4 TII electronics to run the S5 engine. Either just use the S4 TII emissions harness, or modify the NA harness (one additional wire).

There's little gain though in going S5 or S4. The major power difference in the S5 over the S4 is due to a better turbocharger design and higher boost. The S5 turbo can be easily used on the S4 engine, and raising the boost is easy.

If you intend to modify the engine, then cut through the crap and install a standalone right from the start.

If you have time to locate parts, you can alter the S5 TII engine, and get it to run in the S4 N/A car.
I "had"(but now modified all to hell) a 1986 S4 N/A with a S5 TII keg..s5 lower,upper,throttle body,turbo.S4 fuel rails with aftermarket lines and fuel pressure regulator.S4 front cover,OMP deleted,running premixed gasoline.
It runs on the S4 N/A harness.
..as I said I had..now the car is running a Haltech ECU.I got fed up with 30 year old wires.
The pic in my Avatar is the engine with an FD upper manifold setup.
