WA S5 N/A won't start

So I was trying to see why my check engine light was on but it kept flashing and did not really understand what I was doing. Later I forgot to disconnect the jumper cable from the battery (The cable that's connected to the wire with the green tip) and tried to start my car. The car immediately died and would not turn on afterwards. I have a feeling that I fried my ecu. But thought I'd throw this information out there to see if anyone could help me before I gave up and just carborated my motor. It's a 1991 n/a convertible.

Alright. Maybe you guys will have an answer for this question. I'm swapping this s5 NA motor into my SA, now that I fried my ecu I'm looking for a plug and play ecu. Can anyone make a recommendation. Im trying to stay under 1000 for a ecu and I'm not trying to get a mega squirt ecu.

If you think you fried yours, then I would maybe make a thread in your regional forum and see if someone would be willing to let you try one in your car and see if the car starts with it. Outside of that, they are fairly cheap, so maybe try getting a replacement. Yet another option is perhaps looking for someone who is skilled enough to try and repair yours - many times, it's simple components that get fried on the board. That said, I see that you have no real stance on fixing it one way or another, so I will move on to your next post ...

What's wrong with Megasquirt? I only ask because it just seems like you're sort of shooting yourself in the foot by imposing a $1000 cap, but then removing two of your options. Anyway, I spent less than $1000 for my Haltech Sprint RE. Assuming they still make them, I think that's a nice option. Aside from that, you can search around and see if you can get something slightly used - meaning, a newer system that someone with money decided to crap-can because either something newer came along, or they changed the direction of their project.

That shoudn't burn your ECU out. Was it running fine beforehand? Did you check your fuses? Is it turning over?

Diabolical, ive been searching the local ads for a s5 ecu but they've been difficult to come by. I have a spare t2 s4 ecu and a spare s4 na ecu. I'm not against going with a stock ecu, I'm just more so looking for future expansion. I put the 1000 dollar cap on my ecu because I've dumped too much money on my car in the last couple of weeks. I.e. Parts cars and motor mounts and things like that. I think I've decided to either go with a PnP adaptonic ecu or haltach 1500. So if you have any experience with either of those I'd love to get some feedback.

Alkymist, as for my ecu frying. The car was running fine before but what I failed to mention is that I got the car from 2 second owner and he garaged the car. Well I didn't know that the top leaked and the pasanger floor ended up flooding because I kept the car outside. It rains a lot out here in the pnw. So all the lights on the center console were flashing when I turned the key and that's why I didn't really understand why I couldnt follow the trouble shooting procedures. I'm thinking with my passenger floor flooding and me trying to start the car. That, that's what caused my ecu to go bad. When I try and start the car now that I drained the floor. It attempts to start and you can smell gas but other than that. Nothing happens.

Sorry to hear that. There are a few things you could do to actually confirm it's fried. For some reason though I feel like there could be a chance you blew your 15A engine fuse under the driver's side dash. Check that -that would be an easy fix. If you didn't go through the fuses I'd take a look, you might get lucky. Rx-7 are usually lacking luck though lol.

Alkymist, I briefly looked over my fuses and everything looked ok. But I could have missed something. I'll have to give it another look tomorrow. Do you have any idea what could be causing all the warning lights to flicker on center console?
