84 GSL-SE Oil Cooler Leak

My oil cooler has a crack in one of the bungs. Short of finding a replacement (new ones are $700 and any used one is likely to have the cracks also), anyone know of a fix (like girdling the bung w/a clamp)? Also thinking about pulling it out and finding a competent alum welder.

Welcome to the board.

When my original cooler cracked, I took it to a radiator repair shop and they welded it up for me. It lasted for several years like that, then started leaking again (at this point I don't remember if it was the repaired bung or the other one), so I decided to buy a new one. So you can have yours repaired and be okay for a while. My only piece of advice on that is make sure to have them somehow address the other bung as well at the same time even though it's not leaking ... YET.

Another option is to get a Gen 2 cooler and adapt it for use with your car. Yet another option is adapting an Rx-8 cooler (since they are far newer).

Unsolicited advice: consider doing hoses as well, when you are able.
