Anyway Does any1 know if there's a fix for the play in my fc's gear level. As its really bad, there is loads of movement up down left and right. its abit anoying when you catch the gate,

Search "shifter bushings" and check the FAQ.
Additionally, the transmission mounts and crossmember wear out over time. The center mount is integrated into the crossmember so the whole crossmember must be replaced (not a big deal) and the two "Y" mounts need to be replaced.

..here
http://www.mazdatrix.com/g4.htm take a look at the Shifter bushings.
they are what hold the shifter snugly into the transmission. If they are shot, the Shifter will Wobble, and feel like it is Not engaging the gear "gate"as you put it.
alot of Shifter Free play is due to bad shifter bushings, they just plain wear out.
