RX7 engine
RX7 engine
Hi,
I'm new here trying to pick up a decent cheap FD rx7, i recently came across one up for an auction, the site states the engine is rotary but in the picture it looks more like an LS1 engine to me.
Can anyone confirm this.
thanks in advance

Its sold by an insurance company, its not that cheap but pretty cheap for a swapped one and a an rx7 in general, i'm guess wouldnt go more than 10-13k USD maybe even cheaper just my guess. Its evaluated at 17k but cars never go past their actual value on the auction.

Try to find out some background info on the vehicle,
Perhaps the insurance company will be able to tell you who the original owner was, or perhaps you could search the engine bay for any sort of engraving plate to find out if the swap was done professionally..
The final choice comes down to reasoning..
Why do you want an RX7? Most peoples answer would be the fact that rotary's are easy to gain power from at low cost and with minimal modification, or that they are a great base for a race vehicle..
However, the LS swap will throw out your weight, and throw out the balance of the vehicle which will change the handling and performance..
It could be better, It could be worse, that comes down to the research your willing to put in..
Find some people with Ls converted FD's, what are they using the vehicle for, is it achieving what they want? Make your decision from there..

If you can make sure it runs and drives It could be worth it. It will probably need some sorting out. Post the picture in the V8 section and you'll get a better idea from the guys that know. Don't worry about all the weight and handling changes mentioned, you won't feel a difference. Maybe one difference, instant torque.

I really regret missing that deal, I had to inform someone to buy it for me because it requires "dealers membership" but unfortunately i was late.
I am actually looking for an FD with a LSx swap. I am torn between building it myself or paying top dollar for one that was done right. I wouldnt buy a car like that from an auction unless I was able to physically inspect it.
