Question about engines
ok my deal is that im on my red P"s at the moment and have to wait 3 years to get full licence.
and i was wondering is it possible to drive a 3rd gen rx7 on your P plates?
now the max allowed power is 124kw/tonne and 3rd gen pumps out 160+kw/tonne.
so its to powerful.
3rd gens come with factory Turbos is it possible to remove them and how much power ill lose from doing that?
i know some 2nd gens came with non turbo versions, possible to do engine swap?
any more mods to bring power down?
thnx

I know very little about the license restrictions in Australia, but wouldn't they be determined by the official power numbers released by Mazda? In order words, I doubt the government would be sending an official to watch you dyno the car with a detuned or swapped engine.

on red P plates we can only drive cars upto 125kw/ tonne in power no turbos or v8s.
we have to wait 2 years to get green P plates then 1 year after that to get full licence to be able to drive high powered cars.

If you remove the turbos from the FD you'll have a car that makes about 100HP yet looks like it makes 300+.
I love the licensing in Oz. I only wish we would adopt it in Canada. My insurance rates would go down, the cost of driving would be lower and I wouldn't fear every 16 year old **** in a BMW bought with daddy's money...
