Red face Pretty New to my rx7, just a few questions

So, I recently (1/1/13) bought myself my dream car (Rx7)D
I just have a few questions about performance and gains related to my car.

I have a 13b n/a 1.3L convertible - 1990
I'm really wanting to get some more horsepower and show some honda's in town up, I've read alot through here about streetporting, intake, exhaust, etc to do as well.
I got a cat-back exhaust redone and I'm really wanting to turbo, I've heard of people turbo'ing the 6 port N/A engine, but I'm not a huge car tech guy, I mean i have general and basic knowledge of course, but I'd like some personal advice.
I dont have too deep of pockets, and would like to turbo, I'm honestly considering just swapping to a turbo engine, Any opinions, And I really wished i could have found a '90 TurboII, They're just hard to come around here.

I Just want some personal advice,
Thanks!

Can you toss the Cats in your state? Is the car old enough to not need smog checks anymore?
Best bang for buck RB full exhaust, good cone filter and new plugs. Set TPS properly. Toss as much weight out of the car that you don't need when driving around town. Factory exhaust is quite heavy, Lighter battery, don't carry spare tire or jake when your close to home (road trips take the heavy things) Build done!

your Pockets Scream NO.
one thing I have learned is you cannot "half ***" anything with these cars.
If you want to give them Honda guys a run for their money though,Sell the Vert and get a Coupe!.
The verts are a pig(heavy).

This^ As i'm in the middle of my build (n/a) I realy wish I would have just saved up for a TT instead of rebuilding this pile... I love the car but for the best bang for your buck it's best to resist the temptation and save up until a great deal pops up on here. As for porting an n/a... you'll have to rebuild, port, adjust exhaust, coils, timing, (intake porting?), and possibly an ECU if you port big as well as injectors. For that price you could grap an old TT, do a rebuild, lap the plates, and get a standalone ECU (if you find a good deal). Trust the guys on here. The n/a is cool to be able to shopw off your knowledge and attempt to turbo but a full TT swap is both easier and usually more cost/ time efficient. In the mean time just enjoy your car and save up for a TT swap from a doner vehicle or buy a TT and use the n/a as a daily driver.

Don't know about S4 system, but on my GSL-SE I dropped 22 pounds by changing every thing out. I should have weighted my sons, his 86 na he install RB header and presilencer, than had muffler shop install single small magnaflo, (the land of no Cats, YES) doesn't look to bad, sounds great.

For bolt-on type things, I would do a full exhaust (drop the cats if you're allowed), fab an intake (with a heat shield), reduce weight where possible, and get yourself a good tune.

If you really want to make some power without turbocharging the car, a streetport is great if it's a daily driver. Aaron Cake also has written a complete guide to turbocharging an N/A, it's on his website here: The (Almost) Complete Guide To Turbocharging The Naturally Aspirated Second Generation RX-7

Honestly though, it appears to be much cheaper to do a TII swap, but it's entirely up to you.
