Pilot bearing keeps exploding

Okay I own a 1987 N/A RX7 and when I bought the car a few months ago the clutch was wearing down. Me and my dad changed out the clutch together, and it ran and shifted like a charm. Then a few weeks later I was driving and it seemed that all the gates were locking me out of all the gears. Except when I put it in reverse it jumped and stalled. When I removed the transmission I discovered the Pilot bearing exploded. So I purchased a whole new clutch kit. A stage II six puck clutch. Then after replacing all of that it felt just fine. Then a few weeks later, shifting became stiff and hard to put into gear and the next week again all the gates were locked out. I recently just pulled out the transmission and again the Pilot bearing was in pieces. Why is this keep happening to me!!!

that is your problem.

When you get a new bearing it must be greased prior to installing it.

So can I still use the old clutch and get a new bearing. If yes then would a cheap bearing work or should I get some sort of upgraded bearing? (keep in mind I have a stage II six puck clutch)

Yes just change the pilot bearing and use some good HI-Temp Bearing grease, read up on greasing wheel bearing online, this is about the same way to apply the grease. There is know upgrades to the pilot bearing.

The only job of the pilot bearing is to keep the input shaft center when the clutch is not engaged.

Another thing, Stage II doesn't normally tell anything about the clutch system, each company has there own meaning to "Stage"

So by not greasing it what is happening? Is it just getting too hot because of all the friction?

Well Friction and Heat is the main failure.

There is a reason why bearing need grease.

Yeah man It has been crazy for something sooo small that I should have done the first time. Its ridiculous, but thank you all for your help. I have so many plans for this car I didn't need this set back.

Not sure what you mean by a push or pull type, but yes there are plenty of rebuild kits just check out your local auto parts store.

Since RX-7s were built from 1978 until 2004, you need to be a bit more specific.

But, FDs are pull type, all others are push.
