Old gas in car

will 6 month old or maybe even older cause my 1993 rx7 to run a little weird, if so should i burn it off or go get some fresh gas?
ok i got a 93 rx7 tt the car starts and idles good,when i reved the car up in idle up to 6k rpm sounded fine,but when i put the car in gear and try to drive one it hits 2-3k rpm it wont go further and starts backfiring,what can be the cause??

Pour half a bottle of Stabil in the gas tank and you will have eliminated bad gas as a possible contender causing the problem.
As for the rest, I defer to the 3rdgen guru's who have been sleeping of late...
