Oil pressure low?

Hi all, I just returned from purchasing my first RX7, a 1987 TII with an '89 motor. On the 3 hour drive back home I noticed the oil pressure hovering around 30psi while cruising and going up to about 35-38psi while on heavier throttle. However while idling the gauge hovers just over zero. Is this normal? I was told the motor was rebuilt just recently about 1500 miles ago and oil was changed after break-in using mobil-1. There are no signs of oil leaks, the car drove fine, and was not low on oil. Sorry if this seems a silly question, I'm just starting to get to learn the in and outs of rotaries. Thank you!

The spec given in the factory service manual (FSM) is 64-78psi at 3000 RPM or higher. But the factory oil pressure sender has a history of problems. The only way to know for sure is to attach a mechanical pressure gauge in place of the sender, and measure in neutral.

Download the FSM through the FAQ, and take a look at section 2 (Lubrication System). A list of potential causes is there if the pressure sender/gauge are correct.

Thank you, so it definitely is reading low for one reason or another. I'll check with another gauge.

I noticed the same problem on my FC. Even the battery voltage moves around. Luckily i got another set of gauges included. Water temp/oil pressure/ amperage. Just don't know what brand it is.
