Oil Mix w/ gas

The guy I bought my RX7 told me to mix the oil with the gas whenever I filled up. Is this something I should be doing everytime or just keep checking the oil?

You would need to mix two stroke oil with the fuel if your oil metering pump is removed or broken.

I was told the same thing when I bought my 1989 tII last week. The ratio I was given was 1/2 oz. of two stroke oil per gallon of gasoline.

so simple here, fuel is in litres and so is the 2 stroke. 1/2 bottle per tank for me.

This is only necessary if someone has removed or disabled the stock metering oil system. In a properly working stock car, this is unnecessary.

Check the side of the engine closest to the turbo/exhaust manifold. Mounted low on the front cover is a small pump made by Mikuni with 4 lines exiting and heading up towards the intake manifold. If that pump and the lines are in place, odds are the system is functional and you don't need to premix.

For engine safety, premix until you do a complete test of the omp system and lines!

Use only TCW3. Oil is not recommended.
Thanks Gabino

I've taken to using 4-6 ounces of 2 stroke oil as supplemental premix.

i do a half ounce of redline two stroke racing oil per gallon, good pre-cautionary measure because relying on an OMP 25-30 years old isn't the best idea. mmo works well, too each guy has his fave, redline is mine.

Is it best to put the oil in before I fill the tank when it's empty? Should I fill half full then pour oil in or pour the oil in after the tank is full?

I just put it in first and then allow the filling of the fuel to mix it. Some people do half and then premix. I highly doubt it matters in any meaningful way.

First off, my first post in here. I just bought a 1990 RX-7 today and am excited to learn all about it. My seller told me the same thing, but he said he never mixed any in himself. can someone find or post a picture of the OMP in the engine bay? i googled it, but couldnt find a definitive photo identifying it. or i can post a pic of my engine bay in the morning when its light out and maybe one of you can tell me if I have one. thanks

welcome zracin, any way it really not much to explain i had a N/A not sure if you do too but if it is it should be located in the lower part of the engine if you have a fan shroud this maybe a little difficult to see but its down on the left hand side and 4 lines should be coming out of it

when sitting in the car the metering pump will be lower rigth hand front ..near pan but on front cover..will have 4 clear plastic tubes heading towards the intake..
if u satnd in front car and see your distributor..then look on other side of that and lower down towards pan you will see it...

OHH and if your dont see a hard steel linkage attached to your carb or throttle ...then it is not connected....if there is only a hard plate and no little pump..it has been removed

iYeah the pulley belt runs right in front of the OMP. Almost chewed a hose away in mine! Keep them clear!
