Hey guys I really need some help! I just bought my 1988 Rx7 SE on 3/5 and I was so excited to start working on it! My first problem was a coolant leak which I didnt notice was the actual problem till I noticed the red cap wasn't on the bottom part of the radiator. Since there was still some coolant sitting on the top of the under cover, that was all I thought it was. So when I parked at home and saw spots on the pavement, I thought it was just coolant.

Well after I started driving it today and parked at a couple of places, I noticed that oil was always coming out the driver side when I parked. It became noticeable because it is raining. I eventually checked the dipstick and the oil is on the very tip of it now. I looked back under the hood and noticed that there was a small flow coming from under the radiator. I am assuming that is where the oil is coming from. Here a photo if it helps.



So I was wondering if this is a common oil leak problem or something new? If new, any info would be greatly appreciated.

 

I'm not real failure with the FC, but it looks and sounds like the problem is with the oil cooler lines to me.

I just noticed now that some of the coolant is leaking from the same area too.

welcome to the board.

you're probably just going to have to get dirty on this. pull all the covers and shielding. clean the entire area (all points of potential leakage). start the engine and let it run, then catch the leak(s) in the act.

 

I see. So pretty much pull off the front, radiator and all, clean it up and then see what's up?

 

i was thinking more like the undertray and trim pieces. basically enough to give you access to the oil cooler, the oil cooler lines and whatever other sitting puddles of fluid you can find. with air flowing while the car is in motion, it's easy to get led in the wrong direction, so i would suggest just dedicating some time to actually finding the leak with the engine on and the car stationary.
