Oil Additives?

Do you suggest using additives such as lucas oil or anything that are suppose to raise oil pressure and prevent burning? Or is this detrimental for rotories?

Thanks

all of that crap is snake oil, imho. For rotaries or otherwise. I can't help but think that if any of that stuff did anything, the oil makers themselves would be using it. Modern engine oils are a chemically engineered and balanced blend that they spend millions developing. If they saw an opportunity to make money by adding [insert your additive here], without throwing off the rest of the blend, i think they would have by now.

Just one man's opinion.

My last motor had bad oil control rings, which caused it to smoke badly when you let off at high rpms. Lucas Heavy Duty Oil Stabilizer helped a lot with this, eliminating about 90% of the problem.

About the only "additives" that I would recommend is Lucas in the oil, and Seafoam in the gas tank.

I'm very much against seafoam in a rotary - even moreso in a turbo rotary.

Okay, I'm curious. What is your opinion based on? I've used it for years and haven't seen any problems associated with it, but would be interested in hearing your take on it. Thanks...

Fwiw, he is a friend of mine and I know the car and it was well setup and reliable before running seafoam.

Hi, I am wondering about the seafoam also, Ive used it in my 2000 blazer and it seemed to help a little, but it did cause my check engine light to come on, it went off after a couple of days. I would like to run it in my 90 vert once or twice just to clear it up, do you think it would be safe.

His problem was he put the Seafoam in his oil. Put it in the gas tank and you're fine. Its just a petroleum-based fuel system cleaner, and probably the best one out there.

Only put Castrol in the crankcase. Nothing else. IMO.

Ah, yes. I only recommend that Seafoam be added to the gas tank. I don't recommend the vacuum line injection method either, just too much of a smoke show and can foul the plugs. Much better off just dumping it in the gas tank, the benefits are just as good if not better that way...
