no spark for my t2

i bought a rx7 from my buddy. it was a se with a turbo 2 engine and computer. it ran perfect till he popped the engine that was in it. so he bought another t2 engine from my other buddy. compression is in the 90s all the way around. after they swapped it, it wouldnt hardley run. now it has no spark at all. they worked on it for 6 months and no luck. but they didnt have the money i do. i pulled the plus to see if they had spark and nothing. i swapped crank angle sensors and nothing. they tried different coils and stuff and nothing. any ideas? i was thinking ab buying a stand alone if i cant figure it out. is there any ignition i can buy that will send the signal to the coils to get them to fire? im used to dealing with mustangs. i had a 86 rx7 4 years ago but so it. so let me know what you guys think.

Check the black/yellow wire at the coils with the car turned on. Do you get 12V?

If so, then pull the CAS from the front cover and spin it manually with the car powered up. You should have spark.

If you have 12V at the coils and have access to a scope, scope the signal line (uh, I think green/red at the leading). You should have a square wave when you turn the CAS.

If not, then check the ECU.

i have 11 volts to my coils (the battery is running low). i took out the cas and turned it with the car on and still nothing.could the coils both be junk? i tried the spark plug and wire on all four and didnt get anything. could the ecu be the problem?even though i have the voltage i need to them? i tried 3 diff crank angle sensors too.

What did you fix to get spark?

You could have flooded out the car cranking it over with no ignition. Unflood it and try again...
