new and need help.
Hi My name is Julian. I own an 86 rx7 GXL. I've had it for about a year. Haven't really done any
Mods on it really. Just replaced all the basic components tune up etc. Recently my tranny kind of died on me so I was told that they were compatible with transmissions up to the 88 models. So I bought an 88 transmission. And swapped it. it fit. But its shorter than my original and the drive shaft is too short to reach my diff . Do I have to get an 88 drive shaft or are they the same size and I need to get a custom one? Help please anyone?

Julian ..turn on your Spellcheck..
Post pics of what you are talking about because the 86-88 should have zero issues being swapped.
Are you putting in a Newer Driveshaft than the original and that part is shorter?(also?)

I don't see any words mispelled? But ok. Sorry on a phone. So my friend was mistaken. It all fit. Everytying is connected. But now the car just won't start. He thinks there is no neutral safety switch? I'm confused. Anyone got any input?

Chances are the car has an alarm. The alarm helps to operate the Starter Cut Relay which is located next to the Main Relay ( Main Relay has two plugs, Starter Cut Relay has one plug w/four wires). In the four wire plug of the Starter Relay lies a Black/Blue wire. This wire must have voltage w/key to start and the clutch depressed if the transmission is a standard and has the Clutch Interlock Switch that requires the clutch pedal to be depressed to start the car. So does this wire have voltage or not?

Download the 88 manual FSM from this website and see the diagrams to make sure all of the wires are hooked up properly.

The alarm was originally optional, then made standard on the 88 models.
