If your dad is knowledgeable in removing and installing engines and has a bit of knowledge on electrical systems you guys should be able to do it.
For 5k, what kind of condition is the engine in? Are they including the TII transmission? Remember regardless, when you buy a used engine make sure it is in good condition, if it is a JDM engine, a rebuild is a must and you may be able to use the money you save doing it yourself to do the rebuild and then buy shiny parts, maybe a TII diff....
