Looking for get my first RX-7. Technical differences between 1st and 2nd gen needed.

Hey guys.

I'm looking to get my first RX-7 later this year. Now, this will in fact be my first car. I want to be well researched on it before I buy, so maybe you guys could start me out with a little info on reliability/major performance differences/availability of parts between the 1st and 2nd gen RX-7's.

Thanks,

Tim

P.S. If any of you are selling a first or second gen in the GTA, or really anywhere in Ontario, let me know, because I am beginning the search now.

Check out the FAQs, TONS of good information.
1st Gen Faq
2nd Gen Faq

If you want my opinion on the matter.... Get an NA 2nd gen as your first 7. Parts are cheaper and easier to find than a 1st gen. They are just as fun as a 1st gen. They are faster than a 1st gen in a straight (except for the GSL-SE, those are a tad bit faster than NA 2nd gens). The interiors are nicer on 2nd gens and more up to date.. oh and they look better than 1st gens haha.

In great to excellent condition. 2000-3000 for an NA. 3000-5000 for a TII.

I agree. While I miss my 1Gen RX-7, I do not miss trying to replace all of the broken and rusted parts that are no longer available from Mazda or aftermarket dealers. Although a few 2Gen parts are getting difficult to find, most of the parts are still easily available. The 1Gen is light and fun, but I prefer the 2Gen because it is roomier and the steering is much better.

I would consider both S4 and S5 cars, and simply try to find one with a good body and paint, and hopefully good mechanicals. Just avoid the automatic transmission because it is expensive to fix and it makes the car much slower.
