Looking to get an FC
Looking to get an FC
Hey everyone. I have been wanting to get an FC for a very long time, and am finally in a situation where I can begin saving money. I have a few concerns though, mainly how difficult it is to find parts for FC's? I want to find an 89-91 13BT model. I want to build it to about 250hp and mainly do suspension work so that it's a fun car to drive. Also, I want to make it look similar to Ryosuke Takahashi's FC from Initial D. So my other question is do they even still make body kits for these cars? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know what Initial D is so I can't help you there.
250HP is easy. Just turn up the boost on the stock turbo to about 10 PSI and use an inexpensive programmable ECU like the RTek with an upgraded fuel pump and larger secondary injectors. You'll want a nice exhaust but that's really all that's required for 250HP.
As for finding parts, you'll find that S5 ('89-'92) TIIs themselves are fairly hard to find. But parts are easy. Almost everything is still available at the dealer, most of the common parts like brakes can be purchased at auto parts stores, and there is a huge classified section on this forum for other stuff and used parts.
There are many body kits available (most are ugly) as well as a huge amount of suspension stuff. Really, a Google for "RX-7 body kit" or "RX-7 suspension" will turn up quite a lot of information.
These will help you when looking for the car:

Thanks man, here's a picture of what I'm hoping it will look like when finished. Since I'm a complete noob when it comes to rotary's I'll be using this site a lot for help.

I know that's not a real car, just a toy, but regardless it's the best picture I could find in 30 seconds haha

Yeah I am pretty sure you can make your car look exactly like that. I saw a dude where I live with a white FC that looked identical. He had the decals and everything.

It's just a stock 89-91 car with mazdaspeed front lip, rear lower valance, wheels and spoiler riser with a stock spoiler on top. Stock S5 side skirts and some type of aero mirrors. And a paint job because almost every white FC I've seen has had the paint cancer at some point.

Yeah I'm most likely not going to get the stickers, maybe just the Red Suns sticker that's it. Thanks guys! I am really excited to get started and find the car. What's the biggest thing I should look for when I'm looking at and test driving the car though, as far as technical issues that there may be?

Look at post #2 where AaronCake provided links for two pages on his website conveniently titled "How to buy a turbo/non-turbo RX7"
Also, stickers are weak unless you are actually getting money from the company for using their parts.

I had a friend who showed me quite a few episodes of Initial D, years ago. I saw the FC and fell in love... A few months later, I bought one out of a guys back yard. So, I know how you feel OP. Sponge up AS MUCH information as you can. This forum is what helped me build my car.
I like the cleaner body lines look. With less body mods or add on's. The front spoilers look good, but if too low they get caught. A friend had the factory chin spolier on his '90 TII and it kept getting caught on curbs and going into parking lots. Broke it a couple of times.
Stickers, well it depends I guess on how they are done. I have a few on my back glass but none on the body.
I'm not much on big body graphics or tons of body mods that look like teenager FWD cars.
Exterior wise you can get body add on's and kits from Mariah Motorsports, Mazdatrix and Racing Beat has some 1G stuff.

Well if you have to ask...
