Hello!
I've been lurking on this forum for about 6 months now, and I feel it's about time I drop in and actually engage in some capacity.
September of last year, I ran an errand for my family and came across a yellow 84 FB, and fell head over heels. Thought about it for 6 whole months until I finally pulled the pin on getting it. Got the chance to look it over and give it a little power, and I'm excited to tear into it. I love cars, but i'm still a greenhorn when it comes to really working on them
. I've managed to keep my Abarth 500 from detonating for nearly 50k miles, so I understand the basics, but a rotary is a whole different animal for me.
The car used to be a track car, with a holley and a (supposedly) bridge ported 12a, but is in decent shape. Most of the major electrical bits work, rust isn't bad and I can spin the motor over relatively freely with a 1/4in ratchet on the crank pulley. My big concern is that I've never owned a carbureted car, a car from this era or a rotary, and I don't know why it was parked. I have a daily, and I'm more than willing to put time and money into this car.
What should I keep in mind, what should I know going into this and are there any pitfalls I should be aware of? I paid 800$ for the car, and it supposedly ran within the past 2 years, but I've got no clue what service has been done to it other than the brakes stop, the engine isn't seized and the starter doesn't work (but it came with a remanufactured starter, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)
I'm not looking to do a full showroom floor restoration, my main goal with it right now is to get it registered, running, safe and driveable.
Any advice is welcome and I'll be out to my shop all this weekend, so if anyone wants me to check/show/report on something, let me know!

Reason: I forgot the ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ lmao
Replace the fuel filter, rebuild the carb, replace other tune up parts- plugs, wires, and any rubber hoses that look bad, change all the fluids and enjoy it.
Welcome. Good to see another FB owner in Virginia. Love the wheels. I would love a set of 4x110 passports. As already said inspect everything and do some general maintenance, if you need new parts RockAuto.com is a good source, so is Atkins Rotary and Mazdatrix.
