The stock air box and intake tube are already a "cold air intake". I put it in quotes because there is no such thing as an intake that will pull cold air; just ones that will pull ambient air. Air is pulled from in front of the radiator / up through the bumper. The stock box is also not a restriction on N/A cars, so custom intakes (even when plumbed to an ambient air source) are primarily for looks. And the ones that just stick a cone filter on a tube (with no box of some kind) are actually hot air intakes. If you're looking for a potential slight gain, you can use a K&N drop-in filter.

Any auto parts store will have the K&N drop in filter.

Any of the rotary vendors will sell you an adapter that allows you to mount a cone filter on you AFM. You can also get them on eBay.

But if you want a true cold air intake with an aftermarket cone filter, you'll need to fabricate your own.

Apexi makes a great quality intake for our cars, I'm actually thinking of picking one up as well as finishing up the exhaust side.

you can get a cone filter and adapter for the AFM and make a custom box with an inlet area somewhere near the front bumper if you want alittle cooler air BUT its almost the same as the stock. ive just been putting a cone filter on with adapter and leaving it at that.

If interested, pictures of my intake setup are in this thread: https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generation-specific-1986-1992-17/diy-cold-air-box-830116/. With this kind of design, intake temperatures are inline with the stock intake. I have the datalogs to show it.

K&N makes an overpriced cone filter kit for an FC. It's something like $150 for a filter and AFM adapter. You can buy an AFM adapter on ebay for $10, and then get whatever filter you want. I like AEM's dryflow filters, which don't require oiling.

I swear I've seen replacement headlight covers that have an air inlet in them to allow more ambient air in for this type of intake. Anyone ever used one? How well do they work? Does it look really silly?

Im pretty sure corksport makes the headlight cover with a vent but i never had one. i was thinking of getting one and yeah i know that its over priced. i got my last air flow meter adapter off of ebay and used a spectre intake but im thinking of getting the hks intake on my new fc.

those do look about the same as what rr and davd has. but they do look nice. i just made me a custom air box and it took about hour and a half to paint it and get it together. ill post pics but it not the best but im shure it keeps alot more warm air away from it
