High idle...wont come down

ive got an 83 limited edition that has a high idle, thought it was the carb so i replaced it and it still wont come down when adjusted. previous owner may have replaced the fuel pump at some point...its VERY noisy compared to a normal pump. if it is upgraded and is higher flow would this prevent my idle from coming down? i know it shouldnt but this is my last resort....will look for the specs on the f/p when i get to the car tomorrow...untill then, any ideas as to what it could be?

stock pump is about 3 to 4 psi if i recall correct, such a high idle is a vaccum leak, you replaced the carb was it a good one? make sure your vaccum is connected right and is your rats nest removed?

Make sure your throttle linkage is not too taught or the butterflies are not gummed up and/or stuck open a smidge. Check out the fuel pressure specs and linkage adjustment in the factory service manual:
