Help Please w/ modded FD

Hello,
I recently purchased a 1994 FD, with 500 miles on a mild street ported rebuilt motor.
The previous owner did a non sequential turbo conversion...
The car can be driven, I can cruise in it, but once I step on it, around 2nd gear, it backfires really bad, I keep on going, but the car seems to stall like if it were gonna shut off, and then backfires and then It keeps on going. Various friends of mine have seen it, and they all say it could be a major fuel cut, since I'm probably pushing too much boost for the stock ECU. I haven't taken it to no real mechanic or expert. The car also seems to running lean, it always smells like gas when on. The previous owner told me I should buy a Apexi Neo, and get it tuned, that, that should resolve the problem. I bought a Greddy PRofec B-spec II Boost Control. I was told with that I can set it a low boost, maybe resolving the problem for now. I plan on buying a new ECU soon when I can save some money. I'm looking to buy either a Hal-tech E6X or a Micro-Tech LT-10
Please reply or message me. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm new to this. Thanks

What mods are on the car and what are your boost levels? sounds like fuel cut. I'd stop driving the car until you get things sorted out.

For a FD3S with stock twins, the Apexi PFC is more common:

You'll find quite a bit of help with those on this forum when you move out of the Newbie section. Do you have a boost gauge installed? If not, get one. If you do, what is your boost level when the car cuts out?

Can you accelerate to redline in 2nd gear if you just ease on the throttle?

Thats overkill for the stock ecu. I'd look into buying a power FC. Stop driving the car until then or your engine is gonna pop.

The Power FC runs for $1,050, for that wouldn't it be better if I buy a Hal-tech or Micro-Tech? Thanks

You can buy a used power fc in the 3rd generation for sale parts thread. Usually run aroun 750 ish with the commander included.

Like mahjik said its the most common for those running stock twins.

I didn't know that, but sometime soon I'd like to go with a single turbo conversion. So i'd figure , if I'm gonna buy something around the same price range, why not buy a haltech or microtech? and get that out of the way. idk you guys know more about this, than I do. Thanks

The ECU is only as good as the tuner. Do you know anything about tuning rotaries? Who do you know who can tune a rotary for you running a Haltech or MicroTech? If you have someone who can support you with those ECU's on a rotary (not a Trans-Am), then go for it. Otherwise, you'll be able to get ample support for using a PowerFC online (as well as local rotary owners).

I have a friend who also owns a 3rd gen, with a single turbo conversion and he's has a Micro-Tech, he also has like 2 mechanics who specialize in rotaries, but the only reason why I haven't gone to them is because they're a bit expensive, which I'm sure isn't anything out of the ordinary. I guess I'll go with the PowerFC for now. Thanks
