HELP!!How did you install your aftermarket deck?
Hi, I was just wondering how did anyone install their aftermarket deck because I seem to cant install it without cutting the wires. I still have the factory stereo in it but I would like to take it out ASAP! I have a 88 Turbo II and some people say that they take different harnesses than the N/A? I did buy a harness for my rx7 but it wouldn't fit. SOMEONE HELP ME PLZ!
...
The right way...
Remove all stock wiring, run better wires.
Otherwise...
CUT the stock plugs that go to the stock head unit, look at the fsm for wire colors, and solder the wires together.
Don't be a ******* retard like the previous owner of my car and cut the oem wires. (im so angry you have no idea) Buy a "radio wire harness" that will plug into the oem harness. Then solder and shrink tube it to the harness that came with your radio for a plug and play deal. There is also "radio installation kits" which is cheap plastic to cover the unused portion from using an aftermarket single din radio.

why?
who wants to go back to the outdated stock radio?
If one has no plans on going back to the stock radio, why does it matter?
A good solder is better than the quick-splice walmart connectors, is it not?
Tear out the stock 20yr old wires, and put some nice quality ones in.
that's how I'd do it.

Not everyone intends to sell their RX-7 y'know. Most probably will, but that's beside the point... you've raised a valid concern, but there's no need for ALL CAPS RAGING.
And I agree with nate. I think that when I dig into my dash again I'll be pulling a lot of the stock wiring, the preamps (wherever the hell they are...) and installing new speakers. The originals are finally starting to give out.

Where did I mention quick splice connectors?

The stock harness has a connector that has power,so you can just put a spade connector to it and power up your aftermarket deck.(easy).Cigarette lighter "light" you can tap for illumination. One thing though is the stock stereo harness also runs to the Stock amps which are like Dinosaur ****!
Personally,I used the harness to tap power and then ran wires to my speakers.I wanted reliable dedicated wiring..I also ran to aftermarket amps,so I didn't need to involve the stock wiring, other than Power and illumination for the deck.

Running new wires seems like a pain in the ***....but it also seems like the right way to go; don't trust stock wiring, especially for modern higher-amp equipment. Those stock amps are also crap.
Mine was all kinds of fucked when I got it, so I went with the replace all the wires method. I was able to eliminate all the old wiring, and run new speaker wires. I still use the power and ground from the original wiring though, and cig for illumination. Out of everything on my car, it has got to be the only electrical system tha has NOT broken so take that knowledge and do what you will with it.
For $12 you have to be one cheap SOB to not buy the wiring harness adapter. You can solder everything on your workbench in comfort and then plug it in when you install the radio. If you want want to install another radio you unplug it and solder it to the next one. Soldering inside the dash is a PITA.

Key point, plans change over time and maintaining the stock wiring allows the FSM to remain meaningful. Cutting results in a down the road nightmares for the OP or anyone else that might need to diagnose a faulty connection issue as what you're suggesting creates conflicting reference.
To the OP, S E A R C H!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DAMMIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There are a LARGE number of threads, including one jackhild59 authored that I also contributed to (hint) on this subject. That one is more focused on VERTS, but certainly applicable to what you're doing. I promise the SEACH function is one of the most valuable aspects of this RX7 forum.
Yeah, they didn't have any that's why I ordered some. but they still don't fit
Okay then, If you can find me the site, I'd appreciate it.

I got my stereo harness from Best Buy, it was easy, so easy that it was STUPID easy..Do not be afraid to ask them, I bet if they did not have said parts in stock they could order them for you.
I mean no insult, but man....do you want someone to go to the store, buy it for you and deliver it?

Best post in this thread. Cutting the stock wiring (if it is still in tact) rather than buying an adapter is rookie. I've installed dozens of head units in various cars over the years (most of which already had been messed with), many of which are FC's, and all the people that know what they are doing, as evidenced by the quality of the entire installation, use a harness adapter. Those who are cheap, don't give a **** about quality, do a half *** overall installation cut the stock wiring. When I was 16, 17 years old I cut the stock wires.
