Halp! I can't accelerate over 2500rpm!
Hey guys, my name is Christie and I own an 87 na fc that I am working too slowly on for drifting. Thanks for your help in advance and please bear with me as I'm very much learning every single thing about this car as I progress with this drift build! So far under the hood, I've done a rats nest delete that I think I highly regret doing because I have no low end power now. Ugh.
Now, the car keeps cutting out and backfiring when I try to accelerate at high rpms or free rev. It keeps cutting out at 2500rpm. I have replaced everything fuel related, including the gas tank itself. I also bought a new maf. I also bought a new battery but I have to charge it everytime to get it started and then once I do get it started, I cannot turn the car off with the keys. I can take the keys out and the car will continue to run so I have to kill the power by pulling a fuse. So it's continuously draining and I don't know why! Halp!!

Definitely electrical issue has to be solve first and then see if that solve you rev limit issue too. I hate electrical issues with passion, because it takes so much time. If the car backs fires without load, ciulf be a vaccum leak. No experience on fc though. I thought na should not have as many vaccum line as turbo fc.
good luck anyhow, i am sure someone is going to jump on here.

Oh but which fuse do you pull to turn off the car? That can help narrow down what circuit the short is in. I actually have the same problem at the moment...
Did you download the shop manual yet? It has waiting diagrams and explains all the weird engine control stuff

It's a long shot but perhaps its two separate problems? The ECU could be in "limp mode" . Try disconnecting the battery and holding the brake pedal down for a minute... Perhaps that will solve the RPM limit issue. Keep us posted!

87 NA doesn't have a limp mode, if a s4 ECU is in limp mode, the ECU is fried.
Sounds like you need to go back through your Rats Nest delete and see where you hit wires. A rats nest delete shouldn't affect the ignition switch in any way, but go back through to make sure.
How was the car running before you tore into it?
