General Turbo Intake Q
I'm fairly new to turbos, and I just made a nasty discovery.
When boosting, if the pressure gets "too high", above 10 lbs. or so, the air intake leading to my turbo pops out of the rubber sleeve.
I've tried getting a new sleeve but maybe I'm not installing it properly?
The previous owner had some custom pipe work done and I've noticed that this pipe doesn't have a lip on it. Does that matter?
Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Without a lip, it's almost always going to pop off. Depending on what material the pipe is made of you may just be able to bend a lip by crimping, or you may need to weld on some tabs.
Posting a picture would help.

Here are the pics. The turbo in this rx is totally custom (read P.I.T.A.). As you can see, the pipe has no lip. I'm not sure if I could crimp a lip for it myself.

Yeah, that's just a failure waiting to happen.
You can weld a little bump to the jaws of a vice grip and grind out a divet on the other side of the jaw. Then just work around the lip to make your crimp.
Worst case, you can use some epoxy such as JB-Weld to form a lip.

I ended up having to add a lip to both ends of each pipe leading from the turbo to the intake. I got a local shop, United Welding, to put a bead around each tip. It's been working great.
Thanks for the advice!

make a small bead around the tip of the piping w JB weld. or ive even riveted around the whole end of the pipe to form a small lip which makes it impossible to pop off with a clamp
