gen 1 rotary questions
So I looked around and found nothing close to what I want for info. maybe I screwed up. I have a '74 datsun 260 z I also have a 83'? rx7 very straight w/
sunroof the clock says 20 thousand miles I'm not sure any way I was going to take the motor and tans and put it in my datsun but I want to rebuild it and hopefully turbo it first. The rx7 has no title so all I want is motor and trans. the motor turns well I dont know if it runs. no leaks on block or trans mission all in all looks very good judging by spare carbs in back it may have carb issues. I am having trouble finding rebuild kits or performance parts for it. I also dont know anything about rotary engines. I want it in my datsun because its light weight and curios. What kind of power can I get out of this and for how much. thanks in advance for the help and knowledge.

Well, with just plunking it in the Z with the Nikki carb and aftermarket exhaust, expect about 115hp out of it.
If you tear it down and go the whole 9 yards on it, you can get as much as 300 out of it... before boost. It is all in what you want to do.
I would recommend searching the forums for terms such as Streetport, Bridgeport, Peripheral Port, etc.
As for standard rebuild kits for the Nikki carburetor, you can get those at any autozone/Napa/Advance Autoparts.

Far be it from me to dissaude you from a creative project, but consider that most people do engine swaps to gain more power or more reliability -- or both. Your 260Z had somewhere around 140 HP, while the RX-7 had around 100. The Z car's inline 6 had superior torque, and was considered to be at least as reliable as the RX-7 engine.
If you're looking to get more power, many people have modified both of these engines.
If you just want something different, go ahead.

the light weight different motor is the motivator. 250 horse would be the max I would want for this car no matter what motor I do. I like the concept of this motor. if any of you guys have
built this motor for that kind of power let me know how and where to get the parts. thanks

I used to own a '73 240Z, along with several other newer Z models. That straight six is no slouch, and I really don't see any reason to go for a rotary swap unless you're looking to shed a little bit of weight. I would stick with the 6 it came with myself, nice motor.
Sell off the 7 you've got to some rotary lover, use the money to fix your current motor. That would be my advice.
I just saw your most recent post. It sounds to me like what you want is an RX7, so maybe sell of the Datsun instead? I dunno.

I suppose that if I were to consider swapping a rotary into a classic like that, I would hold out for a Turbo II setup. It will be a big job, so you might as well get a butt load of power out of it. Then you end up with an improved car, rather than simply a different car.
On the other hand, with a free flowing exhaust and a Sterling carb on there, you would be in the range of original horsepower and also have a reduction in weight. So either way, it might not be a bad plan assuming that you are up to the work involved.
If you do this, please take lots of photos and do a write-up on it for us. It will be an interesting project to watch unfold.
